The Pestana Casino Park is the only hotel in the world inside an Oscar Niemeyer building — the Brazilian master's sweeping concrete lines rising above Santa Catarina park, five minutes on foot from Funchal's centre. The Casino da Madeira next door, also a Niemeyer design, completes the complex.
Set in 15,000 m² of private gardens, the hotel stacks its pleasures vertically: an outdoor infinity pool beside the gardens, a heated indoor pool with water jets, jacuzzi, Turkish bath, sauna and gym, and a rooftop pool reserved for guests over 16.
Rooms all have private balconies and Wi-Fi; the Bahia restaurant, the Sunset bar with its live music and the Panoramic bar in the casino keep the evenings inside the complex. The cruise port and the old town lie below in either direction.
